The title Paraphrase relates to the process of creating photographs, as well as the plants that are featured in these photograms. This method of color print modifies the plants’ natural colors and reveals the chemical-based technology. The common garden plants are documented in a fashion reminiscent of botanical drawings. However, using collage, the image creates saturated scenes that give energy to the mundane plants.
The title Outside-In refers to the process of collecting various articles of trash outdoors – plastic and organic. I rearrange them in the darkroom, bind them together, and modify their shapes and color into hybrid combinations, often to the point where the objects become hard to differentiate.
